Newsky Traffic injector is only compatible with MSFS and it basically works just like vPilot - it needs 3d models and VMR files to match them to airline and aircraft.
We recommend FSLTL or IVAO MTL model libraries and general VMR files for them that can be found on flightsim.to for instance. Also individual airlines may have their own model/texture sets and respective VMR files.
Models must be installed in MSFS community folder and VMR files must be added in Newsky Settings in Traffic section - Newsky will use them in order they are listed so pay attention to place most general files at the bottom.
Newsky Traffic does not require you to start a flight to see other people. Just connect in top right corner and you can fly together!
Newsky Traffic is still a beta feature that we felt is stable enough to share with wider audience. Please report any issues in respective channels on our Discord server and consider disabling traffic if you feel it's causing some issues.
By default traffic injector is configured to connect when you start a flight. That's because only around 30% of flights on Newsky are performed using some kind of network like VATSIM or IVAO. You can change this behavior by disabling traffic injector in Settings. Below we explain all available options.
Newsky Traffic Injector can work in few different modes:
To anyone using ATC network clients this will be familiar and simply limits the range of operation for traffic injector. It will not show other pilot's aircraft and your aircraft will not be shown to other pilots beyond this distance.
This limits maximum number of aircraft injected around you. If for some reason in your range setting there are hundreds of aircraft affecting performance of your sim you can limit that to only show X nearest to your location.
These are the exact same files as for vPilot and you can use your existing vPilot files without issues as seen in the screenshot above. Top most file will be used first and if match cannot be found second one will be tried, then third and so on.
What if there is no match in VMR files?
If none of the VMR files contain a match Newsky will attempt to match the aircraft exactly as is so if you have the same aircraft installed with the same livery it will be used. If that fails then a default MSFS aircraft of similar size will be used.
Can I use traffic without VMR files?
Yes, of course! The above rules will result in Newsky using either direct match to other pilot's aircraft or some generic match using default planes.
